On Monday the 7th of October, the St. Ailbe’s under 19 soccer team went to Thurles to play Colaiste Mhuire Co-Education School in the second round of the John Murphy Cup.
After a quick warm up session, the game began. Ten minutes into the match a penalty was awarded to Thurles. Unfortunately our goal keeper Tommy Childs couldn’t stop the ball from hitting the back of the net.
After a bad start Philip Roche scored a tremendous goal following a corner. But Thurles seemed to stay one goal ahead with another score shortly before half time.
10 minutes into the second another penalty was awarded but this time to Thurles which resulted in their third goal!
On the 70th minute yet another penalty, for us this time but unfortunately we were not able to capatilise on the opportunity.
15 minutes from the end, after an excellent move, Darragh Burke was denied by the woodwork.
Just before the final whistle went, Billy Keating scored a goal but it wasn’t enough as the final score was 3-2.
