St. Ailbe’s 2nd year girls’ basketball team played against Colaiste Bhride from Enniscorthy on Wednesday 12th March last week. The match was the South-East Region semi-final and was played in our new sports hall. The match was organised by Ms. Maireád O’Connor and Ms. Siobhán Casey. Before this game the girls had played two previous rounds.
The game started off with Coláiste Bhride taking an early lead and was very fast paced with over five scores from both teams within the first quarter. It lost some momentum with fewer scores from both teams in the second quarter but by half time St. Ailbe’s had narrowly gained the upper hand, having five points more than Coláiste Bhride. The third and fourth quarters continued with St. Ailbe’s extending their lead. Amongst those who scored were Lucy Grogan Ryan, Aisling O’Gorman, Maria Nash and Gráinne Hayes.
St. Ailbe’s now move onto the final, venue and opposition TBA. The girls have been working very hard towards this goal and it turns out their hard work has payed off. In the words of Ms. Casey “It was a very exciting game with a great team effort”.
