On the 21st of October St.Ailbe’s under 19’s Basketball team played Colaiste Dun Iascaigh, Cahir, in a challenge. Our starting five was Darragh Burke, Darragh Cusse, Jamie Malone, Janis Pasters & Liam Corcoran.
The first score of the game was taken by Cahir’s no.8. Darragh Cusse got our first score with a magnificent three pointer. The first free throws were awarded to Cahir and they managed to score one out of two. The score at the end of the 1st quarter was 8:5 to Cahir. Two substitutions were made, Darragh Cusse came off and Gareth Price went on. The other sub was Conor Ryan for Liam Corcoran.
An exciting 2nd quarter, led to a lot of scoring. Ten seconds after the start, Cahir had two free throws but missed one of them. That didn’t bother them as they went on to score another ten points. We managed to score 4 points which wasn’t bad considering we were defending for the whole quarter. The score at half time was 15:9 to Cahir.
The 3rd quarter was very uneventful. All subs were used in this half. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 17:12 and the atmosphere was very intense.
The 4th quarter started off with a lot of action but very little scoring. Cahir scored 6 points in quick succession leaving the score at 24:12 to Cahir. We started a comeback with a well worked score from Jamie Malone but Cahir were too strong. The final score was 27:15 to Cahir.
Mr. Russel, one of the managers of the team said, ”A great effort, with some great teamwork and with a little more training we should have a very good team”.
